130 kph in 2nd gear -- no way! S2000's rear breaks loose again with no warning, good thing no one was hurt.

I wish there were pictures along with the report ... Nevertheless, Honda Japan must've been not happy with what happened.

Not happy that they lost control, but probably thrilled that the occupants were almost totally unharmed. I think that it held up as well as it did speaks well for the structural integrity of the car!

anyone know why the back would just go out like that and loose control?
doesnt that usually happen in cars with high torque?

I think the driver simply under-estimated how the car handles ... Nevertheless, he doesn't have much experience. Like I always say, the S2000 is an easy car to drive but to really get to master it ... You need more than a day's work. The report tells me the driver is either overconfident or simply doesn't have an idea what he's doing.

It also sounds like they were on their first lap when this happened. Maybe they didn't get their tires up to operating temperature before pushing it a little to far.

We've seen some pretty horrible looking wrecks on this board and many of the occupants walked away. As Sondra state above, the car's safety was definately not overlooked when the Tochigi Tiger was being designed. I just hope that it doesn't give some of us the "indestructable" attitude that will make us push our envolope a bit too far.

It could have been any number of factors, but my GUESS is trailing throttle oversteer since the loss of control occurred in the entry; perhaps the driver waited a little too long to pick up the throttle. This guy might be an excellent driver, but he had a moment of poor judgement when he decided to drive an unfamiliar car at 9/10ths... with a passenger!

Sounds like a snap oversteer.

But suddenly the rear end of the car swung sideways. Anjo caught it and held the slide for a heart-pounding couple of seconds, drifting the car sideways the way expert rally drivers do on gravel. But we were on sticky asphalt, and as soon as the tires regained their grip, the front tires

I'm surprised how well the car held up, even when flipped over. A testament to Honda's excellent structural design and engineering.
