Default Floor Jack - Recommendations?

I've always wanted a decent floor jack. Last year there was a group buy for AC Hydraulic jacks. Anyone who bought one satisfied with it? Would you have purchased a different model if given a chance to do over?

http://www.ac-hydraulic.com/uk/workshopjacks.htm

I'm most interested in a jack that will reach the front center jacking point without driving onto blocks first. PS: I have the OEM front spoiler.

Any other jack recommendations welcome.

Thanks,
Ken

Ken I don't know if you have a Harbor Freight Tools outlet in Washington but they just started a sale on an all aluminum low profile floor jack that's about 3-4 in. tall. It's pretty slick. $199.00

BTW: it's not a "mini" jack. Full sized with a rubber pad for the lift saddle.

Ravenwerk,
Nice looking jack and good price. Only $179.99 for raw aluminum. $199.99 for annodized colors.

Saddle is low enough, but the hips are too tall. And I'm affraid the arm isn't long enough to reach the front center jack point.

Thanks

Ken,

check with Ray on the Harbor Freight jacks; he's got one. I think he just doesn't use the center jacking positions, though.

I have a Sears Craftsman smallish (2 ton?) model that I can just barely use on the center front point, but I don't have the front spoiler.

I too have a Sears, it is not the best in the world, but it has been good to me for 7+ years. I too am thinking about the Harbor Freight aluminum model.

I have a chin spoiler on my car so it would not slip under the front anyway. I just drive up onto a couple 2 x 10s before I jack the front, and then the thing slips right under. And when I pack the car for driving schools those 2 x 10s actually help me to load heavy objects in the passenger seat without crushing the thigh supports.

Here is a pic of mine.. I got it at Costco for ~$80.. It's has a 3 1/2 ton capacity which is well over what my cars weigh. It's too tall to get under the front jack point, but I jack up the back first, and then go from the side of the car just behind the front wheel, and can reach the front jack point from there.

I bought an AC jack and it is much better than what I had since it will get under my lowered car and also has a very high lift; a solid reliable garage jack. The aluminum ones are great for hauling but not the best for heavy garage use, and the cheap ones simply don't go low enough or high enough for many tasks.

I have the Harbor Freight jack and it fits under my S2K easily and it is lowered 1". It is a great jack for the price.

I have the afore mentioned Harbor Freight floor jack, as well. It weighs 37.4 lbs and the saddle sits 3.5" off the ground. Unfortunately, it isn't long enough to reach the front central jacking point. It is however, the best jack that I have ever had the pleasure of owning. It's rated at 3000 lbs. It is very well made and is a pleasure to use and own.

Another vote for the Harbor Freight jack...

I can lift an entire side from the front-side jack point, so I never bother with the front-center jack point.

I never bother with my 3-ton anymore unless I'm lifting a truck.
