Floormat Problems
I just ordered Greg's floor mats, and it got me thinking....
Every time someone gets in the car, they insist on stepping on the crossmember in front of the seat.
Not only does this make it nearly impossible to get into the car, it scuffs up the carpet, and may actually cause damage to Greg's floor mats.
One friend does this every time, and complains how hard it is to get it. I have explained that he should step over it, but he continues to stop ON it.
How do you prevent people from stepping on this thing?

Good question, Sparky. I often wonder why on God's green earh people feel like they need to slam the passenger door like Nolan Ryan's fast ball!
Well, the natural place to position your feet when getting in the passenger side is to put it on the crossmember. And obviously, over time, the floormat will wear out, as well. But, and this is probably my biggest complaint about the car, the carpet will wear out far faster than the 3 section mat will. And when the carpet wears out, you are talking about a MAJOR repair.
I have this simple solution for people who continue to insist on putting their feet in the crossmember. Ask them to sit down FIRST, then swivel their legs over and put them forward of the crossmember.
If there is no compliance, they don't get no ride in the race car!
Seriously, it's a problem. Instruct the people who are frequent passengers to use the butt-first method...

Broken glass and nails glued to the cross member should work.
I think that re-educating passengers is an uphill battle and will only cause friction.
Get some mats that cover the crossmember and forget about it. When the mats wear out, buy a new one.

IMO moving the seat forward will only cause extra wear on the side bolsters. I simply lay a small towel over the hump. When "new" passengers get in they usually kick it or move it when they step on it. BUT I feel it's done its job! I simply "reset" it for the next passenger.
Regarding Greg's ass first, swing feet... ladies in short skirts should disregard that tip. The proper way to enter is one leg in, one leg on the ground and then "plop in"

This thread is beginning to look like another "saver" for the Best of S2000 online. Much more enjoyable to read when the subject has both a serious and humorous side to it and no one's getting hurt.
