The '07 seems to have an abundance of flywheel. By that I mean that the flywheel must be big and heavy. Is there a design/engineering reason for this?
Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think the flywheel design has changed since 2004 when they converted over from the 2.0 to the 2.2 motor. With the shorter redline of the 2.2 motor, perhaps Honda increased the weight of the flywheel to prevent the car from falling out of VTEC in between shifts.
The heaver weight of the 04 + flywheel is part the reason why the increase of torque. More moving mass means more torque. The 04 + cars have about 10 ft. pounds more torque than the early cars do.
The AP2 wheel is about 18 pounds and the AP1 is 14 pounds
