Default flywheel weight

Does anyone know the weight of the flywheel, and in changing it out, how much weight has been taken off?

Camille,

If memory serves me, the OEM FW is just over 14 pounds. The Spoon flywheel, which is the one I have, weighs about 9 pounds. I think the other aftermarket ones are about the same as the Spoon...I'm glad I did this one, btw...

correct, I believe that most of the flywheels: Spoon, Toda and Comptech are all apparoximately 8.5lbs (give or take a few tenths). Rich at Import Development deals with the Spoon products and if you want, I can get you a Comptech - and even lighter weight pressure plate, heavy duty clutch.... we can make it much lighter. =)

schatten,
do you have a price for the Comptech? Would we benefit to wait until S2K days and get it then?
Thanks to you and Greg for the info........ it's more for the hubby, I am happy with what I have, he wants heavy duty

Hey guys, what does the lighter flywheel offer? Quicker revs? Also, do you notice a rough idle since there is less mass rotating? How hard of a job is it to do? thanks,

what does it offer: lighter drive train will allow the car to spin up and spin down much faster. this helps out in lighter drive trains, however... some might argue (especially with larger V8 motors) that you'll lose the mass in the flywheel which can create perpetual motion and keep up the torque.

Comptech flywheel through MG Racing (myself & Tim Hamm): $419 shipped to your door*. And it doesn't matter when you purchase it, now or then, same price. =)

*TX residents must add 8.25%, free shipping in cont. US, a few dollars more for elsewhere.

Lighter flywheel means quicker rev. AND quicker accelerations.
The less mass you have to accelerate the better the power is transmit to the wheels.
If you put a lighter flywheel, clutch disc, pressure plate, drive shaft, wheels, tire, and also crank shaft, connecting rods, pistons, cams, valves you gonna have a much much quicker response of the power available to the wheels.
But if you start with a lighter flywheel and lighter clutch you'll feel the difference.

What's up with that? So to avoid this charge could it be ordered just from Tim?

Just giving you a hard time.
