The copper headgasket isn't necessarily to be safe, it allows the engine to handle more boost. Which is why it is no longer a part of the kit. It isn't necessary to lower the compression 1 point to run 6-7 psi. The reason to lower compression is to run higher boost. Also, I believe the labor is very extensive to install the copper gasket.
