Unless you're looking to buy it, store it then flip it in 5 years then don't bother.
As mentioned above you have an S that you love and drive. Why buy one you will probably love less because you will be driving it less...

Karcepts STR base map on EMU basically does the same thing on earlier cars. I never noticed, but my car walks away from my friend's car on stock tune.

whether you should buy it depends on what you want in an S2k---the 2002's still had the plastic rear window, smaller wheels, no VSA, and is more "tail happy" than the later years......none of these are for me but if they're what you want, go for it.....
That was an amazing deal! Too bad some greedy dealer bought it and is already trying to resell on ebay now for $37,800!!! I wish it would have gone to a good home instead.

wow, some people truly take advantage. I hope he gets nothing close to his asking price and sits on that car for a while. Ap1's are not in the 30k's as of now so he is crazy

For $37,800, I rather lean towards a nice CR model.

In saying that, if the math all added up, I'd sell your AP2 and get the AP1. But that's just me. I'm an AP1 kind of guy as well. So take my advise with a grain of salt. Also, I wouldn't worry about keeping the miles low. I bought a low miles '01 S2k thinking the same thing. But then I cleared myself of those thoughts, modded the piss out of it, and have been racking up track miles since. But it was nice to know I was starting with a babied car that had been well cared for....which it sounds like you'd be getting as well.

Of course we're all just wasting time giving you feedback here. The choice is up to you. Follow your heart. Good luck with whatever you decide...and most of all, enjoy!
To answer your questions, It needs TLC on the interior and exterior, but after a good detail, they'd be in the same shape cosmetically. I drive mine about 5k miles a year, it's a weekender. It'd take about 8 years to get to the current mileage of my car.

Ok, so I test drove it today and here's my assessment. It's been kept outside in the elements under a car cover. Cosmetically it's great (but dirty). Curb rash on the front rims. Top is excellent. A little rust under the hood, and after driving it, the front caliper wouldn't let go :/ He said it's had 2 oil changes which is basically based on mileage. Cranked up like a Honda, rode fine, shifted like a dream.

All that being said, I wouldn't go anywhere near 20k asking price. I don't know if I should bring it to my mechanic and get into the meat and potatoes on the car, or just pass. Also, don't know what I should offer. It feels like a house that needs a ton of work, but has "good bones"

You stated you have a great S2000 already, imo an AP2 is a better version, plus you have a unique color, which you have also stated you love.

If I were you, I'd keep enjoying the S2000 I have and love and tell these people to post the car for sale here.

Pre-2006 cars require an aftermarket or modified ECU to tune. That's all I'm pointing out.

I'd not call any S2000 a "unicorn" unless it was made the first week of production in 1999 or whatever the last week was.
