Frame damage but insurance refuses to total.
I will try to summarize as much as I can so this doesn't become too long.
I slid while taking a turn after a downpour and slid my driver's side door into a telephone pole. Fortunately, I slid into it at less than 10mph and did not suffer any injuries. Unfortunately, my frame/unibody is bent.
My body shop has been telling my insurance that there is significant frame damage and has been recommending a total loss since day 1. My body shop informed me that my car is like the shape of a banana. Due to the impact on the driver's side, the passenger side has also been affected. (I was afraid of this because my shifter was no longer centered in the hole there).
Anyhow, after my insurance finally approved a frame pull, the appraiser came out again (3rd time). They pulled the driver's side and it came back into specification. HOWEVER, the passenger side did not! The appraiser failed to include in his report that the passenger side is not coming back to spec. After spending more time talking to my insurance, I requested a supervisor to go out with the appraiser again (4 times now). There are other details of some sneaky insurance behavior I will leave out for brevity.
My car has been at the body shop dealing with the insurance for about 35 days now. My rental coverage has capped 10 days ago.
Bottom line. My insurance is trying to tell me that my frame CAN be fixed and my body shop is telling them that it CAN NOT.
Although I love my S2000, with a bent frame, I wouldn't feel so safe in it even if it was repaired.
I don't know what else to do? Should I inform my insurance that I will be informing the department of insurance? Should I try to sue them? My insurance is definitely covering their "behinds." They log everything and they go through the motions promptly pretending they are helping me while refusing to believe the evidence.

Who is your insurance company? A reputable company or "The General"?
When I let my S roll down a hill into an crevase, State Farm took care of me completly with virtually no questions asked. Quality insurance should never be dismissed due to price.
Sorry to hear about your incident though. I know how hard this is.

Less that 10 mph impact AND significant frame damage?
I'd love some pics of this.
I guess keep on the insurance company about them having to spend more money to get the frame straight and see if they change their mind, otherwise, let them spend a lot of money and make it right.

you should see how much they're paying for the damages. ask the body shop "if" you were to fix it, how much it would be. they should pay for your rental until they are able to cut you a check or fix the damages.

I said I slid into it at less than 10mph. The body shop was curious too about exactly what happened as well. There was a curb (9" high) before the telephone pole. I think my car hopped up that curb, and went driver's side rocker panel first into the pole. You'll see from the pictures that my driver's side window isn't even broken.
