Hi everyone, just out of curiosity: Once you reach freeway speed, we'll say 70-75mph, do you typically leave it in 6th gear, or go with 5th gear to keep the revs up and have an extra gear when you want it?
Cruise in 6th gear as long as the engine isn't lugging and you don't need to accelerate too quickly, on flat roads, not so good in hilly zones. If you need to accelerate more quickly or the engine starts to lug then put it in 5th.

If you are on a straight stretch and have the autopilot engaged, you will have slightly better milage. The best milage I ever got (twice driving around 35 mph in mountainous terrain) was 38 mpg. Nice and slow looking at scenery in Yosemite Tioga Pass and Death Valley.
Is this Really a serious question? 75mph = 4k rpm in 6th, which is already more frantic than virtually any other car. It would be silly to drive in 5th hwy cruising.
