Hi everyone!
I may be in a market for a new S2000.
One of my concerns is the holes in the front bumper for the license plate! I noticed that some S2000's don't have any holes and some do (with plugs). What is the deal with it? Only states that need them have holes? Are they drilled in?
I've searched through this forums archive and couldn't find anything.
Any help will be appreciated! Thanks!
BTW, I'm in California!

I think all have them, but some may have "filled" them. The holes are molded in the bumper with a nut thing inserted in to accept the bolt for the plate mount. All the cars come with plugs that match the bumper color.

I'm not sure where you live but in CA, it is the law to have front license plate but I removed mine. If I get pull-over, it will be a $10 fix ticket for not having it. Since most the dealers will drill two holes to assemble the front license plate so you can request from them or buy the license plate plugs ($3) to cover the holes. It looks so much better w/o it.

some dealers here in CA won't give you the plugs when you pick up the car (they'll have already installed a cheap looking plastic license holder). if that's the case you can buy a set of plugs from honda-accessories.com (http://www.handa-accessories.com/).

IMHO it's worth the risk of the ticket.

I actually had them filled.

Stock, they all come with the holes.
My bumper got scratched, so when they were repainting it, I asked to have it filled in.

It looks smooth, like there were never holes there.

Front plate looks ugly. Live dangerously! Leave it off!

just leave the front plate under the floor matt on the passenger side. If you get pulled over, show the cop your front plate and say you were on the way to the dealer to pick up the front license plate bracket so you can get it mounted.

Speaking of which, DO they make a front bracket for the license plate frame? I assume they do because it would seem really cheap and flimsy to just screw the plate into the holes in the bumper.

I ordered my car from the dealer several months in advance so I was able to more or less tell them what I wanted on the car. In addition to the normal options included in the contract I specified two things: 1) no license plate holder on the front, and 2) no tacky dealer stickers on the back. They honored both requests. The car comes from the factory with 2 color matched covers over the holes in the front bumper and a pre-drilled hole in the grill to mount a bracket that supports the bottom of the front license holder. The covers really aren't that noticeable and you have to get down on your knees to see the hole in the grill.

There was a front bracket assembly on mine, and all that came off quickly.

In 15+ years of driving in CA, I have never had a front plate on ANY car, and I have never (knock on wood) been pulled over for it. Neither has my wife, and she has not had a front plate for at least the last 10 years.

Honestly, I could not tell you where my front plates are... I put them away where I would not lose them... but I have no idea where that...

Why does the black one in the S2000Online logo have a front plate?

BTW. My dealer did not bother with the front bracket. Said it would look stupid and made me promise to put them on.
