South Carolina only requires one license plate, but my new car came through with a fancy black plastic front plate bracket attached, and a vanity front plate with the dealership's name on it. I even got, at no charge, a chrome plated rear plate trim gizmo, again with the dealer's name engraved. This one I removed, because it mostly obscured the stickers stating month and year of expiration, and also covered up most of the 'South Carolina' name print. I have heard horror stories of people who have found their new cars had dealer logos on front fenders, which were installed via holes drilled in the fenders. Yukkhhh!!!

is it state law to have front and rear license plates in OH (ive always put them on just to be sure) If it is the law, what is the punishment- moving violation, non-moving ticket, high/low fine?

The dealer put the front plate on my car, Ct. law, and as soon as I got home it was the first thing to come off. The prpe guy had put the plugs in the cup holder, so I kind of lucked out. I love how the car looks without the front plate, and will risk a ticket to keep it.
