when Ive seen it done - there was some sanding/grinding to get the nubs smooth, then some fiberglass work, some bondo/sanding work, then a respray of the bumper

I had a custom decal of my license plate made. Same reflective backing, colour and font as a real plate. I removed the plate bracket and all hardware, then stuck the decal directly to the bumper.

Looks awesome and takes care of the hole issue as well.

Cost was $25

Mike
I have a feeling any cop that pulled you over would have more problems with a replicated license plate than running no plate at all.

The S2000's licence plate mount is so ridiculously ugly that it's not even funny ...

Unfortunately the traffic cops in my city are so strict that no one has dared to remove their front plates here

HTSA states you must display the government issued plates in the front and the rear, I will argue that a decal, resembling a genuine plate is "within the spirit of the law".

I'll post a picture when I get a chance.

Mike
So if the law states that you must display the government issued plates front and rear and you go and print up your own and slap it on, how is that within the spirit of the law?

I would think that there's more risk in running your own printed plate than there would be in running nothing at all. Which is what I've done for 5 years now with no ticket for it. Been pulled over for plenty of other things and cited but not for a missing front plate.

Replicating plates is at least a misdemenor in most places. Getting caught is another story.
