Default Front Strakes?

I hit a racoon and messed up my front bumper cover on MY05. I got it fixed but the body shop did not fix/replace the front strakes. (I think that is the right name). Anyway it is those plastic pieces that come down in front of the front wheels. What do they do? My guess is they direct airflow from the tred of the tire. Do I need them? I can order some and put them on myself but if they aren't needed then why? Pros? Cons? Any advice or insight I would appreciate.

Yeah I would guess so. Product number 205530. They are only like $12 so I guess I should order them anyway.

I think they help deflect air from hitting the front tires like you said. I imagine this is to help reducce air resistance and to keep the front wheels better planted at high speeds.

Someone here did an airflow study and from what I remember, pretty significant air pressure builds up in front of the wheels without those deflectors.
