frustrated - rear window, top, VTEC hesitations
Hey Everybody,
I'm getting to the end of my rope. Don't get me wrong - I LOVE my 2000 s2k, it is probably the greatest car I've owned, and have had Hondas for over 15 years. But I am getting really frustrated with the treatment the company gives to legitimate issues.
My car has less than 20k miles on it, despite being 4 years old. I treat it well, care for the rear window as per this group's instructions/advice, yet am already eating through my 2nd rear window.
Now my top has two holes, in those familiar spots I'm reading here.
This summer, the balking/hesitation in VTEC has started.
This stuff just isn't acceptable - it isn't "wear and tear" when your car only has 20k miles - it isn't related to use, as time (4 years) has no bearing on a window, or a top. And especially - an engine shouldn't have mystery probs at 20k miles.
I purchased HondaCare, and for the top/window issues, they won't help. No one can seem to figure out the engine issues - my dealer doesn't feel it, and people here seem to be split on the cause.
I want to keep and enjoy the car, but am getting nervous and worried about how Honda stands behind it's products.
I know people have mentioned Class Action lawsuits before and been flamed. I understand that because it does jack up consumer prices. But at the same time, 2 years on a window, and 4 years on a top, along with dangerous hesitations of the engine are not acceptable - especially when one owns an extended warranty.
Does anyone know of any avenues to get this rectified without more drastic action? My district rep is pretty much useless, and the Honda NA customer service rep said they would NEVER cover a top or a window as it is "user-oriented wear and tear", rather than 2 design flaws.
If anyone has any ideas on what I should try for next steps, I'm all ears, I love the car but shouldn't have to pay $2400 every 2-3 years (top - $1600, window - $800) because of Honda's incompetence.

Ahhh the qualms of warranty work.
Do you have an alternative dealership to hit up? If one doesn't work, the next one might.
Have you registered a complaint at the NHTSA website and with the BBB?
Has the car been in for this problem UNDER warranty? If so, do you qualify for the lemon law? A lemon law attorney can help you here if you think you qualify. I can make a good recommendation for you, just PM me.

Aside from all of that, is the car 100% stock?

well most people seem to have trouble free probs on their s2k. I think you might have got a lemon or a troubled s2k. It seems like once they got past 30k without probs then its all good sailing. Good luck though.
Hey guys, thanks for the feedback. I don't know if I have a lemon or not - all of these probs are documented for s2k's. The top/window issue are debatable - the dealership/hondacare say it is "user error", since it is movable. I say BS. I plexus both sides of plastic, and have towels on either side of the window.
The top issue just started happening, wear marks like talked about elsewhere on this forum.
Hesitation started this year as well, I've heard MAP sensor, and I've heard that that doesn't help it.
Ultimately I'd like to keep the car and have the probs resolved, but I just don't know if that is a reasonable expectation, at this point.
As for Lemon Law - I live in colorado, and since the car is more than 12 months (The normal lemon law time), I dont' know if it matters anymore. I've had the car since new, but the probs didn't even arise (window = first prob) until 2 yrs old. Anyone know any CO-based attorneys?

Thanks for the info webguy. I feel similarly to badkins - my rear window has turned brown and opaque after 3 years. I have Honda Care but they say they don't cover "upholstery" and its my fault for not using special cleaners. I love my car, but not being able to see out the rear window is unsafe. Obviously Honda agrees that the plastic sucks because they stopped using it in later models.
Anyway, I was all fired up to complain to BBB before I found this forum, but I'm going to try a special window cleaning treatment and see if that works. If not, BBB/NHTSA. I've been surprised at Honda's crappiness in dealing with this issue, because their service in general has been absolutely stellar! I guess they figure it will cost too much to replace every plastic window on every MY00 out there.
Unfortunately I don't qualify for the lemon law as it only covers 18 months, but thanks for the link. I was wondering if I might possibly have a small claims court case? My warranty does not define "upholstery", and counting this important part of the car that is integral to safe driving as if it was the leather on the seat seems a bit strange.
