I went to the local Honda dealer last June to buy my son a Civic for college. Decided that the Civic wasn't what we needed but I had been interested in the S2k since it's inception. So I strolled over to the manager's office and discussed the likelihood of buying one. You know the drill..are you allotted any for the coming year? Have they already been reserved/ How much will you be asking...yadi yadi yadi..
To make a long story short the day I went out to buy a car for my son I actually ordered one. A Silver/Red 2001.
So in June I plunked down a $1000 deposit. However the dealer actually didn't order the car from Honda until late August. I was told that this was the first date he could actually order his Sept. allocation.
So time rolls on. My Honda dealer really gives me no help in estimating when the car might actually arrive. In fact he told me that no one knows and it will just show up one day and he'll call me.;rolleyes: I've followed a number of "Just Arrived' topics and emailed many of you as to your timing experience. I go back to my dealer and explain that he should be able to at least give me the build date. Well its now Dec.11 and he calls to tell me that the build date is ~ Dec. 24-26th. I Place an order to Honda for an S2k in late Aug. with a build date of late Dec. Hmmmm
Doesn't this seem a bit loooong? Or is this normal turn around???
I'll keep the group updated on this saga with pics to follow...
Waiting by the phone in Corpus....

Chuck, I actually test drove a Civic before I bought my S2K, my thoughts at the time were:

1. I need a inexpensive commuter car
2. My son turns 16 in Aug, '01 so this would be a good car for him to start with.
3. Good gas mileage....

Well as soon as I saw the S2K and sat in it, I knew at that point nothing else would ever satisfy my desire except for the S2K. I asked if they could hold it for a day, and of course they said no...so, I went to another dealer and they had one on the showroom floor. Silver/Black. It had my name written all over it. I asked them if they would hold it for a day or two and they said sure. I came back the following night check in hand and took delivery of the car.

Oh by the way, my son does have a '00 Civic EX, slightly modded waiting in the garage for him to turn 16. (I wasn't about to offer him the S2K)

I put down my deposit in April for my '01 S2000. The allotment came to the dealer (his only sure one for '01) in late July and after that my color choice was fixed. On 31 August I was given my "tentative build date" of 23 August, 2000. Then we heard nothing new until October when my dealer called AHM and was told the cars were being held up to do the seatbelt fix before shipping. My dealer got my car around 29 October but I was out of town so I picked it up 4 November when I got back.

Perhaps when you put down your $1000 in June you were not first in line. Your dealer might have had a couple deposits ahead of you. Perhaps his July allotment was not big enough to include yours. That could have happened and the dealer might not have known how big that allotment would be when he took your deposit. So, perhaps the dealer put your order in during his second or even third allotment.

Hope that helps.

From the time I put my deposit down I waited 9 months until my car arrived. If it makes you fell any better.
