Unhappy Future of the S2000?

how's everybody doing

i'm pretty new to the whole forum, recently got really interested in the s2k i was just wondering if there was any other news on a new generation of S2000s (since the last thread of this topic which was in 02) or if they would be....... discontinued .... i'm really hoping to become an owner in 4-5 years and knowing that it'll still be around would be most excellent

thx for your time

IMO its doubtful. I think the S2000 will be killed after MY2005. Its not selling too well anymore (at least not locally in Miami), and with all these new sports and GT cars coming out b/w now and 2008, I really don't see how the current S2000 will still be able to compete.

Well, maybe it's just me, but it seems like every year there is a thread talking about the coming of the final production year of the S2K. I wouldn't be too worried about it. But, if it actually happens, you can always pickup a used one

The new generation (with most changes) was made on the 2004 model. The 2005 is pretty much the same as the 2004.

i think that it the end will be soon. It was more an anniversary demo than a commercial product. Really, it was a test bed for the K series engines, too. I doubt honda has made money on the S2000, either; there are just too few units.

I wouldn't consider the 04 a new generation. The changes were pretty minimal. The engine had 95%+ of the R&D done, and the bumpers look similar to those on the original prototype (taillights are a dead wringer).

You will never, ever find reliable information about the future of the S2000.

I don't think Honda will even try to stay in the game. I hope they do but when dodge makes a neon that is beating our car for $10,000 less and Honda responds with nothing well I think it's either time for them to get out of the game or hit hard. If they hit hard I think they will come out with a whole new car which would make me happy because I like the fact that there isn't that many on the road and less is better. If they don't hit back then they will abandon this market and the same result for me. I'm keeping this car for the rest of my life unless I wreck it or something tragic like that so Honda keep the parts available!

Well I disagree on the statement with Dodge making an Neon SRT that can beat our beloved S for $10K less. To me, the Neon SRT is not a factor. Someone in the market for an S2000 will not cross-shop an Neon SRT but above all I don't care if the Neon SRT is faster than the Ferrari Enzo, to me and everyone else its still a POS Neon riced out from the factory.

It would be sad if Honda decides on following Toyota with mass-producing economical vehicles only and abandon the sports cars. I'm sure they would make lots of money that way. IMO I hope Honda stops producing S2000's and bring a new top of the line sports car to the market. To answer your question, nobody really knows what's going to happen to the S in years to come. Everything is pretty much rumor and hype

I'll def have another upgraded car in 2 years when I'm settled in with my MBA anf start my career.

s2k to compete in a few years is going to have another engine makeover and this time it would cost millions way more than it did for the lil 2.2 bump which still makes the performance times the same as the 2.0. That will take millions and millions which will push the price up and s2k will lose that bang for the buck. I can't ever see Honda using V6s for some reason, I dunno why they won't.
Dont see it happening plus the s2k isn't a money maker.

I agree completly I just think honda can build a better car then that and should stay competative with the perfomance of lesser cars on the market like the neon. Since the neon is a P.O.S. shouldn't the s out perform it?
