Future of the S2000?
Damn I hate these threads. So much ignorant navel contemplation.
Firstly there have been an untold number of threads on this topic. They don't pop up every year, they pop up every minute.
I doubt Miami sales figures will kill the S2000. the world is a whole lot bigger than Miami and, on another tack, poor sales in Miami didn't stop the NSX being produced for 12 years.
The S2000 is not a 'test bed for the K series engines'. It has an F series engine with very few similarities to the K.
The F22C may have been a minor update, but it's a huge update when you consider it was done for the US market only. The other changes are also just a freshen up, but I doubt they did all that tooling for just two years.
Elistan - You're dead right!
As for Neons beating S2000s that's just stupid. There have always been cars that will 'beat' the S2000 for half the price. All you have to do is have a really narrow idea of what performance is. I mean, the Neon may be quicker to 60 and in the quarter, but does it handle? Is it fun to drive? Is it convertible? Will it last more than 2 years?
By your logic would Porsche still be making the Boxster? Would BMW bother with the M3?
When you've been around here long enough all you'll learn about Honda's future plans for the S is that you don't know them and you shouldn't bother posting in threads like this. Stay too long and you'll just end up posting bitter rants like this!
JonnyS2K - be assured that whether or not Honda discontinue the S2000, or if they change it so much it becomes a people mover there will still be at least 99-05 S2000s available and they will give as much enjoyment as they do today.

I agree completly I just think honda can build a better car then that and should stay competative with the perfomance of lesser cars on the market like the neon. Since the neon is a P.O.S. shouldn't the s out perform it?
i remember when a friend and i first saw an NSX, new in a showroom, complete with the unobtainable stainless steel "sales broshure"...i thought to myself "just how long will they be able to make these?" ....
I think the S2000 is near the end of its life as well. The main reason is the competition. In 2000, the S2000 was heads-and-tails above most other roadsters on the market. Today things are a little different - the driving dynamics and chassis of the Z4 are superlative, the upcoming Boxster appears to be far more competitive, and my recent drive of a new SLK demo rather blew me away--I actually liked it more than the S, although it has a price tag to match. The Miata has more kick than before, the 350Z roadster has some catching looks and gobs of torque, the Mustang convertible finally grows beyond its 1970s mechanicals, and the Elise steals away the "hardcore" title from the S2000. There never has been a better time to buy a convertible. I don't see Honda putting much attention on the S when right now the Civic needs it so much more.

I'm confused.....the s2000 was discontinued in 1999, they haven't made any since then....
