Default The Future for the S2000

I have heard that the end might be near. What does anyone else hear about the future of the breed?

Not yet. Honda just made their 2006 catalogue available to dealers. However, they're not spending any real capital on improvements and the competition keeps getting better. No doubt it's days are numbered, but what -- or when -- it's going to be replaced is anyone's guess.

If they keep selling, they'll keep building them I'd imagine. Who knows how long that'll be. Last I heard, there is no successor currently in the pipeline.

The new issue of SPEED (the magazine) has a computer generated image of the car supposedly replacing the S2000 in 2008. I believe they called it the GDX, or something along those lines. I didn't buy the magazine, rather I just skimmed the articles. They say the S2000 replacement will more than likely be a 2+2, although keep a high revving 4 cylinder. The magazine also adds it might be FWD, but more than likely will be a hybrid sports car with SH-AWD. This doesn't sound like much of a replacement for the S2000 since it isn't RWD or a roadster, but just thought I would pass this along.

It stands to reason that the marketing niche they're shooting for is, "Cool Sports car @ 30K" as opposed to, "Classic 2-seater drop-top"

My crystal ball says:
SH-AWD
K20A2 on mega crack or a reiteration of the F2??
2 Doors
Non-borrowed, ultra-stiff chassis and/or some really good chassis share that'll wind up in a good Acura-level product.

I could be wrong, but I think they're still selling all the S2000s they can build (about 7000 cars per year in the US). In 2000, they originally forecast about 5000 cars per year for the US.

I would guess that Honda would continue to build the S2000 until some kind of successor is ready, or they can no longer sell all the S2000s they build, whicheever comes first.

I have heard no news for the S2000.

The only thing I've seen is a CRX in 2007, and a V10 powered NSX replacement in 2008.

I thought we were going to get the HSC which would have a 320hp 3.5L V6?

I think its going the way of the CRX. Makes it more unique and cult like in my book not to mention another mistake for honda
