I know absolutely nothing about the way to hot wire a vehicle, but it looks like they might have taken out your ecu and ignition to swap in another ecu and ignition in hopes to drive the car away but it wasnt successful. Also, it was probably in the street because they planned on starting it by push starting.

That would be my guess too. Someone up here had their car stolen the same way. His car had Lojack so they recoverd it and the replacement ECU was still in the car.
