Default Gas gauge problem

On my last 2 fill ups I noticed my gas gauge, on MY01, was about 3 or 4 bars shy of the full mark. I know my tank was full because I filled it myself.
Anyone experience this problem?
Is this something the dealer can fix? new gauge?
Would it be covered under an extended warranty?
thks,

There's potentially nothing wrong.

Do you leave the radio/accessories on while filling the tank? If so, next time, turn the key off while you fill up. When done, turn it on and start the car normally.

Don't worry too much. My car had 4 bars yesterday that suddenly disappeared to no bars. This morning I had 2 bars again. Based upon my mileage history, I still have 20+ miles before my "mandatory" fill up mileage (280 miles).

with a lot of highway driving, 300+ miles can be done. With mainly city driving, I get 250 miles until the gas light comes on. I believe that comes on when you have 3 gallons or so left. I put about 10.5 in and it is good for 250 miles, so I get about 23.8mpg.

Check out the mileage log in my sig (above) and see what my projected mileage is per tankful. 280 is near the absolute low-end of what I expect per tank.

why would the gauge not show the correct fuel amount?
Does the sensor float in the tank or is it just a f***ed up gauge?
Previously, my car always showed all bars at fill up.
Glad to hear the car has a low fuel warning light.- although I've never seen it.

People even average 28MPG with a mix of city/highway.

iamhomin, who has gotten 260+ miles before the gas indicator went off.

Visit howstuffworks.com and search for fuel tank.

You also have to remember that it is not linear therefor it is far from being accurate. The first 80 miles will eat up 3 bars in the beginning while the last 3 bars will last maybe 40 or so.
