Gas Mileage
30mph is good - I've gotten it a number of times. To achieve it, simply drive for a full tank's worth at 70mph. Accelerate as little as possible.
ps - for what it's worth, the best gas mileage is achieved with large throttle openings - a small throttle makes it harder for the engine to draw in air, which reduces its efficiency and mileage. So if you need to accelerate, give it lots of throttle but shift early.

dang 30.5 mpg... how fast were you going? Like 65-70 mph?
I go about 80-85 mph and get 27 mpg best. I've been getting good mileage in the city also (24.8 avg). I find this car hard to bog unless you are really trying to. The speed limit in most of Tucson is 35 mph (
) and I can cruise in 6th gear at that speed (usually 40 mph) without any trouble.
My S is my daily driver right now so I'm not
all over the place.
Seems like the break-down is like this:
MPG with S as a daily driver-
22-25 city
26-30 highway
MPG with S as a weekend car-
12-19 city
??-?? highway

Thanks for the feedback guys. Iwas able to go about 80 mph in some places. However I didn't realize the average speed was about 60-70 because of all of the traffic at different times. From what you are tellling me, that mileage is out of the norm for the most part. I'll just take it and be happy right now. Since it is a daily driver, I'll be back to my normal 20-22 mpg. Thanks again for the input.

bogging ur engine by shifting TOO early consumes more gas then shifting at a good point, shift into 6th to early making the engine bog at like 1-2k makes it so u have to give more throttle even with the lower rpm.

best to shift smoothly and keep the car in its power band, (not the 7-8k band) but not bogging. and this "should" result in optimal mileage.
