Getting new top on the Honda Cert. Used warranty
Got a 2001 with 29K miles on it, had it one month, bought under the Honda Certified Used Car warranty...which is one year for non-powertrain stuff.
Noticed that one of the seams is just starting to come apart. Now, I know this warranty isn't exactly like a new car warranty and also there's the issue of this being a normal wear item. But just looking at the top, I've got this feeling that about the time the year is up, top will literally be fallign apart.
Anyway, just wanted to hear people's experience with top issues on the certified warranty.
thanks and happy (incipient) new year.

No personal experience with this but I've seen reports here of varying results. Each case will be different. You will only know by going to your dealer and making a claim. If refused, go to another dealer for confirmation.
It will not happen under the Used Warranty. The top is labeled a "wear related item", similar to brake pads. You can go and bitch at them (like I did) because they sold you a car with a bum top. You can request them to fill out a Good Will repair authorization form. It needs to be approved by your regional service manager before anything can be done.
It has been done before, but its almost a luck of the draw because of the service manager authorization requirement.
Good Luck.

My car is an 05 but here is my experience with replacing my top.

In fact , I took it back this last week because the middle section was coming undone (probably due to the fact that this was their first top replacement) and they fixed 'er right up.

I bought a MY02 back in June. Bought it as a certfied honda and got the honda care warranty. 1 year bumper to bumper, and 100,000 mile powertrain. I inspected the top very very hard, because a previous dealership almost sold me a certified honda with a top that had a whole in it. When I bought the car, there were no wear marks at all. 3 months later one had started to develop and the fabric was extremely thin at that spot. Ended up getting it covered by my warrenty. They told me the frame needed to be adjusted.... So it might have been covered cause it was mechanical? Who knows.
I think the most important thing you should do, is ask your local forum for the best dealership and most coustomer oriented dealership. In Northern VA we have a dealership that goes far beyond to help its clients. I even drove 1 for them to check it out. I know if I had taken it to a few of the honda dealerships around my house I would have been denied because its a "Normal Wear Part" They all go through HOA and the district Warranty guy, but I think the how the shop manager supports your claim can go a long way. Also Im not the only guy that has had his top replaced/paid for by honda from the same dealership.
