...other upgrades to the 2002 include the stereo head and added tweeters, full length covered console, leather wrapped shift knob, minor chrome accents to the rear lights, and, a little tweak to the tranny. LONG LIVE THE S!

Good info. Thanks. I see you live close to me. Do you know what he differences are in the other model years? 2000, 2001 and 2003? I'm trying to decide what year is best to buy. Also what was the tweak to the 2002 tranny?
Thanks
John

I can find lots of cars. Negotiating price is a different subject. I have even found several 2000's below $20,000. What are the upgrades on the 2002 and 2003 models that make such a difference?
Thanks

The 2000 and 2001 models are nearly identical, as are teh 2002 and 2003.
My own perspective is that the only upgrade on the newer model that is
worth the extra cash is the top with the glass rear window. I managed to
find a new top w/glass for cheap, and also got a good deal on the
labor so my car will go in next week for a top swap.
A lot of these cars are 'weekenders' and you can save some real money
on a lightly used 2000 or 2001. I found mine (a 2000) with only 7500 miles
on it. I'm in the SF Bay area where prices are still strong.
It all depends on budget. Check out eBay to get a sense of the market.
If you can afford to go new, I would do it just to be sure that you are
getting a clean car. Car's a year old are frequently not much less than
off the lot if you bargain hard (also, do you pay sales tax on used cars
in your area? We do!).
On the other hand, if you only want to spend about $23 to $26k, look for
a low mileage car from MY 2000 (not much point paying a premium for an 01,
since there aren't major enhancements).
Finally, consider your choice of color. Red is about $1k to $2k cheaper here in
SF. Silver carries a premium, and black has reasonably strong demand also.
