Interesting..... I detail cars myself, and have never heard of this, but I'll try it... Truth be told, you learn something new everyday.. Like using flouride toothpaste to take the haziness off of our headlights... It worked somewhat, it's a possibility it depends on what type of toothpaste I guess.. But there are like 300 different brands and flavors... But I still use my old formula..

Anyways, thanks Macy for the tip..

Distilled white vinegar will also remove hard water decently well.

The Isopropyl alcohol will work on other years, but only the 00-01 have the shiny silver underneath. 02+ (like mine) are shiny black.

My question pertains to the "silvery shifter frame". The alcohol basically removes the silver paint leaving it shiny black?

In a nut shell, yes.

Well, it removes the coating. I don't believe it was paint because there was hardly any silver residue found on the towels after.

Did you also do the "start" button area?

Iso is also great for cleaning any chrome you have on the car, such as exhaust tips, emblems, etc...

I used distilled vinegar to remove hard water stains...just keep dumping it on it works... my truck had a terrrrrrrible spot from the sprinkler system...took an hour for it to go away but it did!

rubbing alcohol can screw stuff up to be careful. It's somewhat corrosive still.
