So I first heard about this road as "one of the scariest in the US" with TOTD being number 1

Anyone take their S2000 up this? Obviously wouldn't be a blistering drive but might be some amazing views....

I'd check the road conditions before going. Was just at Yellowstone where some roads had been washed out and not yet fully repaired and saw a Boxster bottoming out on the dirt and rocks.

We did it years ago. During the summer there is so much traffic you'll go pretty slow but the views are amazing. Currently I think you have to buy a timed ticket to drive on it during the summer. Check glacier.org for road tickets and conditions. Also it closes in late September most years depending on weather.

I'm in NC so a bit far for a weekend trip for us haha. Right now they are still clearing snow which is what made me think to look it up.

Yeah that's a shame. Similar to the Blue Ridge Mountains here in the fall when the leaves are changing I guess - it can get pretty hectic with all the leaf-gazers although we've had great luck the times we've gone.

If you don’t go you won’t know

that’s what has led to some great things and epic disappointment

I was on the road as a passenger and the views are terrific. I'm on the east coast too and decided to fly out west and rent a car. We were heading on a hike and the trailhead that was off the road with limited parking. So we parked the rental in a lot and took one of those red shuttles you see in the video - as much as I love to drive, this was a really great way to take in the views. And as goofy looking as the shuttles are, we had a lot of fun - highly recommended. Driving the Going to the Sun road during the tourist season is an incredibly slow process - took my brother 2+ hours to drive the 50 miles (BMW 2).

Going to the Sun road is epic, we were in our truck as we were camping on vacation, but a truly awesome road/drive and scenery. It's not a "driving" road like the dragon, completely different experience.

We have done it twice in the S and its a great drive. Do not tailgate, that way you can see more stuff but also rocks that come off the cliff side. I've seen cars and trucks get their tire slashed by the sharp rocks that come down the hillside. And the S doesn't have the most ground clearance so you might have to get out and move a rock that most cars and all trucks would just straddle but can do damage to the S(I've had to do this twice on one of the drives).

Bear spray is one more thing to think about for that road(others to, if you like the back roads like we do), we've been over that road 1/2 dozen times over the years and we have seen big grizzly bears up there and I would not like to be in the S in a traffic jam and see a grizzly come around the car in front of me and there we are with the top down. It's not like you can just drive away, the way I think of it is I would rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

Definitely worth the trip and would be far more memorable in the S2K than a boring vehicle!
