I’d say fairly average with the times but in my opinion a few thousand dollars to high. Condition is key if everything checks out I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

Pictures look good. I would want to see the vin tags, the top up, and the undercarriage. Price seems awful high to me. Typical dealer pricing.

thank you so much for the quick reply! So what do you think I should offer? I am driving to the dealership right now. Assuming all the Vin tags are there, and the condition looks good in real life, how many thousands of dollars less should I offer?

Time of year is in your favor
before the current value increase about 15% value change depending on season with Feb and Christmas bills and impending tax plus winter blues making this a hard time to sell and good time to bargain.

New idea that this might be a investment car screws things up, but if you like it and it’s not thrashed, buying it, loving it and beating it back to its reasonable value would be enjoyable!

either way more fun than any current new car per dollar

It over priced- I personally much prefer the AP1v2 because of the way I drive my s2000. I'd pay $24500 - and for that price the dealership needs to include in the purchase price a copy of the compression test, do a spec valve adjustment and check the retainers, guarantee accident free, change out the tires for summer rubber (those all seasons are shiite).
good luck

thanks darcy! I doubt these sales guys will know what valve adjustment and retainers are.. any idea how to bring that up? i’m at dealership now.

i have a feeling they’ll just say the carfax is clean regarding the accident guarantee..

I tend to agree with Darcy's assessment. Its hard now because it seems we are in the midst of a significant price rise. But, my gut feeling is its a bit of a bubble and for normal cars it will back up. Could be wrong. Who knows? Take a look at the prices people have been paying at bring-a-trailer to get a sense of the market but keep in mind those prices reflect the higher end of the market. I have an 03. I bought it in 2018 for $22K in a private sale. It had 17K miles at the time. It was in perfect condition, one owner and well maintained and cared for. Also, and this is important, it had an OEM hardtop. Silverstone over black. The top probably adds at least $2K to the price of an s2k. So, you can see why we react to this price the way we do. As I said though, the market has popped of late. So, who knows?

Its hard because if you want a good example which this appears to be on the outside anyway you have to deal with the reality that there are only so many left. That is a big reason why I bought my 03. I owned an 02 at the time. I knew the 02 was not exactly the car I wanted for a couple of reasons, mostly aesthetic. After owning the 02 for a while I learned more and I knew this 03 was exactly what I wanted. So, I jumped on it.

Hey, its only money, right?

Let us know what happens. Good luck with it.

BTW - I am with Darcy re Ap1 v ap2. I would acknowledge however that so far ap2 cars bring a bit more money all other things being equal. That could change as time moves on. Both are great cars. I see you've owned an ap2 in the past - so you probably know all this!
