Is this a good deal?
Hello,
I've been searching for an S2K lately but have run into some iffy cars as maybe you've seen a couple of my previous posts. I was looking into an AP1 with between 50-100K miles and expecting to pay around $11,000. Around here (Denver metro) it seems that the price is too low for something in decent shape, so I'm thinking of raising the bar to about $13,000. My question is - Does something like this make sense for $13,000 (the lowest he will take)? -

A little background on the car - 61 year old owner, no accidents, babied, nonsmoker, everything works perfectly he said.
There are a couple like this around here but I'm not sure if I should just hold out for something better.
Thanks!

hell no i would never pay 13k for that. i mean without a doubt it's clean and well maintained but for 13k you could probably find an 02 or 03 with glass window. i would pay 11.5 tops for that. would he take it? i dono, if he gets desperate enough maybe. i would offer 11k and see if he gets back to you. if not, move on.
Yeah on the phone he said he would take no less than 13, then proceeded to go on about how it's the best car in the area for the price after he did all his research etc. etc. Maybe this area is more expensive than most other areas in the country, because he is mostly correct from what I am seeing in the classifieds.

IMO, purchase price always depends on location and situation, so it's tough to say what's reasonable for this car. I'm nowhere near Colorado or Nebraska, but I can tell you I sold my excellent condition '02 with 49,500 miles for $13.7k a couple weeks ago (only had it listed on autotrader for a week). FWIW, my sale price was very close to the Edmunds TMV price (about $100 more), and we negotiated that price in about 8 seconds
For my area, I think $12k - $12.5k would be reasonable for that car. But if there aren't many around and the seller isn't in a tight spot, he can wait it out to try to get his $13k -- just like you can wait it out to find a better deal from someone else
If you're able to travel a bit you'll probably open up a lot more options too.
Be patient and good luck!
