Hey

Good news, the metal sill piece is coming along well. It may even be easier then I thought.

I am making two options.

One shinny metal (where its shinny now) with type inset and black. Just like it is already.

Second black main body, and silver raised type. Just the opposite as it is now.

Rick I need to know if you have a font for the type, that people like. Remember I am using a Mac, so if there is a font let me know or email it to me. Printer font and Screen font. Postscript fonts of course.

The first trials will say

Ashville on the upper line
20001 below it, centered

And then on the right I will put

Taming the Dragon

Under this would be a name and vin#
In this case I will put

Keith "aquatic" Vin #269

(on a side note, anyone going to Ashville with a lower vin then me, can't come. I want to have the lowest vin, hopefully theres a prize, hint hint.)

How the metal piece works.
The current sill needs to be clipped out. I used a wire cutter pliers and just snipped off part of the rivet. Leave as much as you can there. Then the little washer thing came of and the piece came right out.
There are two pieces, this is what made it much easier for me. The center pieace, looks like metal is what I am going to remake. Its only stuck to the outter piece with what looks like rubber cement. So this is how the new piece is going to be attached as well.

Then I figured we could just reattach the whole thing usiong velcro. This way we can change it whenever we want.

Price not official but it may be around $20.00 per piece plus shipping. I need to find out actual cost of metal and the amount of time it takes. I'm having it down at work, I am not actually doing it myself. But we have cheap labor.

If $20.00 per piece sounds high let me know here. It may be less.

After someone oks what look is best, I'll need to know what everyone wants on theres. Whether is the same as above with there name and vin, or something else.

I'll keep everyone updates when they are done. I plan on sending them to Greg, since theres alot of Chicago folks down there.
So Greg I need your address. Plus I found my Palm Pilot too.

Price sounds about right to me. I will buy one.
My only concern is: if it is attached w/ velcro will it be strong enogh to stay in place or will it tend to get bumped and lose its 'hold' and fall off?

Sounds cool, Keith...

I'll email you my address...

JD, the idea is to use enough velcro, like on the whole back of the piece to prevent it from coming out, slipping around, etc...

Keith, just make sure to make the piece thin enough to accomodate the velcro...

Oh you'll be surprised with the strength of some different types of velcro. Strangely enough, once you get past a certain point of "velcro strength" the stronger the velcro is, the cheaper it is.

The metal replacing the excisting piece, is the same thickness.
So that won't be a problem.

When the whole piece gets removed from the sill, the rivet piece is still there, so it won't move. And actually little velco is needed. It may even hold itself in place, with out. But I think the velcro will help.

Greg let me know what you want on yours. I might have enough metal on the first run to do yours and mine.

Meat (if your lurking around out there) yours are free, just find that mount for my camera. I'll still pay for that, I just don't know where to find it or what it really is.

Hopefully Rick gets in touch with me about a font. Otherwise if someone likes a certain font, let me know. I have a lot of options for what to put on it. Every piece could be different, doesn't matter much to me.

If they look as good as I think, I'll make some extras for

ASHVILLE.

Another plug for Ashville.
