I was on my way home today from looking at a beat up S2000 with high miles for $6500 and I looked over in a ritzy area I was drivign through and a dealership had a red S2000 out front. It is a 2000 Red/Black with 55k miles in mint condition all the way around. The price tag was $12999 but dealer came down to $10000 just to move it before winter. Clean carefax and I couldn't find anything wrong with it. I have had 2 S2000's (this will be my 3rd) and originally I was wanting a 350z for something different but I cant pass this up right? I've been looking everywhere and can't find anything to touch it in the US for price. KBB changed their value system (which is stupid) so their values are way to high. Anyway, Im going back tomorrow to look closer, test drive, and potentially buy it.

 

Yeah, 10k is less than or close to its trade in value. Its a good price for a dealer, just make sure to check it over.

 

Price seems good for the miles and condition.

As for KBB value changing: do you have more information on this? I did a quick Google and found nothing indicating they made any changes. Used car values are up quite a bit vs. two years ago or even last year because fewer people are buying new in the current state of the economy. I am wondering if this is the only difference at play or if they actually outright changed something with their valuations.

Yea I got some background info on it. It is a clean carfax and I looked it over really well including a test drive. The only two negatives I could find is that it had weather floormats instead of S2000 floor mats and the strikers were iffy as the top had typical air noise. A 58 year old lady traded it in on a new Volvo. I ended up talking them down a hair $9800 and put $3000 down on it. 2 people came in inquiring about it when I was there. Seemed pretty legit.

As for Kbb, I understand used car prices have increased, but they are still high. This S2000's book numbers:

Trade in Value: Excellent $12,500 Good $11,950 Fair $11,025

Private Party: $14,410 / $13,785 / $12,760

Retail $16,260

Last year I bought a 2000 S2000 Silverstone with red interior from a private owner for $8500 that had 85,000 miles, needed a new top, had dings, a rip in drivers seat, and needed a repaint on the front bumper. When I valued it in good condition it was retail $10,000 Private Party $8,800 and trade in $6,700.

 

what state are you in... that's really cheap for an s2k compared to here.

 

Missouri, All of the dealers are crazy and our private party values are still kinda high here. I use to bash on buying from a dealer but if you are strong willed and know what you want to spend within reason you can usually get there on price with a dealer. I looked at two cars today the S2000 I bought and an 03 350z 6-speed. I first looked at the Z and it was mint with 59,000 miles on it. They were asking $14,000. I told him over the phone we weren't even close on numbers. I went and looked, offered him $11,000 which is reasonable for a Z. He came back with $12,000 and I turned it down because of the S2000. Dealers get people in their that dont know what they are doing or understand values of vehicles and that is where the money is made.

 

DONT BUY AN 03-04 350z. those transmission sucked very badly...you made the right choice. that price is insanely cheap. a dealer in my area would have the car priced at 15k probably.
