Default I'm looking for a rolling shell, any help?

So, my current car, is in my avvy. It's a 1997 Buick Riviera, which cost $750 about 10 years ago. It has gotten a new transmission recently, and new tires, wheels, struts, shocks, rotars. It runs like brand new at 204,000 miles. I plan on having it as long as possible for my daily driver, and plan minimal upgrades like an intercooler, fuel injectors, intake, exhaust, m90 supercharger, new rockers, new tstat, and smaller pully, which will yield around 300 hp and 370 ft lbs of torque =]

BUT... I want a real performance car later down the road. My 3800 series II engine might be legendary, but the buick is just not a performance car, and it's plain and simple luxury, and still drives like a new bmw.

So, I'm looking for either a 1993 RX7 FD, or any model S2000 as cheap as possible with a pristine body, engine and tranny don't matter as I have plans to swap an LSx crate engine in either one.

so given that, later down the road, how cheap can I get one of these shells? and I'm guessing the s2k will be cheaper, which is nice, because having a convertable will be awesome

but yeah, I'm not looking for flaming. I want true opinions, and I don't have 40 grand or more to spend on a real performance car, so I figured this was my best bet.

The way I see it is, there are LS crate engines that push over 500 hp naturally aspirated, which barely weigh more than the stock engines of either car. You basically get a 2800 pound car with 500+ horses NA and a perfect weight distribution with REAL torque and reliability. I never cared for wenkel motors, or vtech, to each their own.

so yeah, What kind of pricing am I looking at for an s2k and RX7 for a shell car, presumably no engine or tranny?

idk really what the question is other than you're asking for a price. And that I can't give you, but I know I'd pay around $3k for a good condition body with no seats, motor, or trans. But many have picked out Ap1 shells for under $2k.

If you are serious about your inquiry, please post in the WTB forums and I'm sure a seller would be happy to contact you if you post your requirements. If you would like this thread moved there, I would be happy to accommodate.

Which LS crate engine pushes 500 hp NA? The z06 (LS7 I think?) does but I can't imagine that being cheap.

You will most likely have to spend more than you think. Upgraded differential, or just getting a differential cause your shell didn't have one. The transmission will likely not take that kind of power reliably. There would need to be custom fabrication, but I'm sure you know. Don't want to bring you down, just generate thoughts and concerns that may appear. I hope it keeps the 50/50 wheel balance. Even if it is slightly off I'm sure the car will still handle great.

LSX 454 pushes 620 hp naturally aspirated, and 500 ft lbs of torque @ 2800 RPM costing ALOT less than an LS7, and can take 2500hp in the block before it breaks. Not only that, but it can be bored to 511CU for closer to 800 hp on 91 octane. it can be bought for around 9 grand as a brand new crate engine. the LSX 376 can push 450 hp @ 6600 RPM and costs 5 grand brand new. perfect for boost application, and can easily take 1000 horses with stock internals. either engine would be amazing.

if I was going super cheap I could just slap an LS1 or LS6 in there. point is, 3 grand for the shell, and the engine+ other parts is a LOT less expensive than a heavier corvette.

Well I can get you a AP2 it needs seats, dash, top, front fenders, head lights and bumper along with other things for 3K OBO and you might need to put 1200-1500 in parts into it to bring it back then add you LS1 which i make the kits for and your golden. PM me if interested. See my sig

By the way its still a clean title.

The car does still have 50/50 if you relocate a few things and my bone stock LS1 made 338 hp and 346 ftlbs at the wheels and it is 100% stock if i did a cam and intake and some headers i could see 460-500hp NA. You dont need to do a Diff the Honda will hold some are doing fine now. You also use a T-56 6 speed transmission from chevy not the Honda so nothing custom just the driveshaft.

I think if he had 5k in the car and 5k in the motor then another 2k in kit and misc. parts he would be all good. So a 12k V8 powered S2000 is not bad at all.
