Felt like I needed to chime in:

While I do not agree with some of the over reactions and tactics, I do agree with the base complaint. Now C3, you own the sight, it's your prerogative to run as you see fit. I won't presume to tell you how to run the site. However I will tell you running it in the manner described in this thread will alienate me and other members. The moderators are making the criteria far to complicated and subjective to individual whims. Posts dancing all over the site, mine or otherwise, will make the site harder for me to use. This will make me less likely to visit/use the sight. It's that simple (at least for me).

This entire thread (and the others like it)is incredibly boring. It is a meta-conversation...akin to a conversation about having a conversation. Move on, people!

Isn't there a way to lock threads like these?

In the old days at H-A.net, the board would get hacked right about now and all of these disputes would be quickly forgotten. So much for reliability? (j/k, Flame-mongers!!)

Ok, for the record there is no clear definition of what is or is not on topic or off topic. At the same time there is no specific rule as to what should or should not be moved. The forums are fairly general in nature with only a few exceptions. What I ask is that you try to post your topics in an appropriate forum for the nature of the content. At the same time I ask that if you have a problem with that or any other decision you simply ask why the decision was made and for reconcideration.

I ask that you not demand that a decision be reversed and that you not attempt to circumvent a decision that has been made. Both of these things upset me as you can probably tell. This site is about community and being a part of a community requires some amount of compromise from all concerned. A little patience is also helpful.

I got up this morning to read a few threads which asked why I'd moved things, fair enough. As time went on the requests turned to demands and then to rebellion. All before I even got out of bed. Now I have one member who has taken it upon himself to run amuck and make several posts about how only sponsors can post topics about this or that all over the site. This is not good.

The thread in question "Moving Threads" now located in the Site Info forum was started at 7:38AM PST. I reponded (however inappropriately) less than one hour later at 8:35AM PST. At 9:06AM you chimed in to say "Then MOVE THEM BACK. Seriously, this issue of moving posts using random criteria has been getting worse and worse".

Strike you are not helping this situation. Comments like those above are demanding and accusational no? The random criteria you speak of is human judgement. Humans have to make a decision about what goes where and those decisions are not always predicable or consistant. There is no machine we can run posts through that will automatically tell us what forum it belongs in.

I have not received a single PM on this issue. Instead the complaintants have chosen to air their disagreement in public. That's OK I guess but it is not necessary to gather a popular movement to convince me that your argument has merit. Simply explain your reason for believing I'm wrong and if I think you're right, problem solved. That position won't change no matter how many co-complaintants you muster. Also airing these grevences in this way will result in a negative response. You now put me in the positiong of having to justify my actions to the entire membership and not just you. This changes the nature of the conversion from one-to-one to one-to-many and it is very difficult to hash out an issue with an individual which a bunch if other people injecting their opinions into the mix at the same time.

The simple truth of the matter is that it is true that some posts were moved that perhaps shouldn't have been. It is also true that I would have simply moved them back if asked. But that's not what happened. What did actually happen is a metter of public record so I won't go at it again here.

I appreciate it if we could cut the "I'm offended" crap and deal with the real issue of what you guy feel should be moved back and why then everyone would be much happier. You are not the only one offended by this episode and what has traspired since.
