GoPro alternatives: use your iPhone
I'd rather buy tires and to be honest, couldn't be bothered.

thanks for the post.
I'm still not convinced to buy a cell phone.
but, it shows the versatility of one of those gizmos.

Very interesting. I couldn't buy tires without a cell phone.
Yes he is, but that has very little to do with the OP's suggestion that an iPhone can be also used as an action cam.
So as Adrenalize has alluded to, OP's topic... Cool suggestion for hardware that some may have just laying around.

Another example from this weekend local autocross event.
I love its map overlay.

Couldn't you buy someones old Iphone and not sign up for cell service, then use the Iphone as suggested? That would be pretty inexpensive, I would think. Forget it's even a phone if you are one not wanting a cell.
There's a bunch of GoPro alternatives that offer the same or better performance too.
The Contour 2 and the Sony ActionCam are both pretty good little cameras.

After using the gopro hero 3 white, I wasn't impressed with it. It's only feature that appealed to me was it's compact size. I love the video quality my DSLR captures but it's a bit bulky to record outside driving and it's recording limit is only 10 mins until I have to hit record. I've used my 5S for several action videos and was pleased with the quality. That's why I returned my gopro and bought a mount that will be compatible for both my DSLR (for inside recording) and my 5S (for topdown/outside recording). I don't film all the time, maybe every couple of months so spending $400 didn't seem worth it to me at least. Instead only spend $120 on equipment and used the devices that already deliver the same quality, sometimes better.
