Got Alignment done, and could not get front Castor past 5.6
First auto-x is tomorrow, wanted the following alignment:
Front Castor 6.0
Front Camber -.3
Front Toe 0.0 mm
Rear Camber -1.3
Rear Toe 2.0 mm
The tech ( who is an old friend from back in the day, just happens to work at tireman, so I trust him more or less ) said he could not get the front castor to go past 5.6. I forgot his explanation, I will ask again tomorrow at the auto-x, and post it. Question is though, does this sound right? Or should I not even sweat the .4 difference, car is handling nicely, just if it helps with stability at the limit, or quicker turn in, I want the extra castor.
Thanks in advance,
Steve

I believe CASTOR is oil from a bean. As such it should go around almost anything. If you mean CASTER, that is a different story. Your current setting is fine, but you need more negative camber in the front. You will oversteer with this setup. If you want quick turn in you need toe out in front, but be careful on the street.
Cool, just so I understand you Chipperman, my car will oversteer as set up now? or w/more neg camber in the front w/little toe out in the front? Also concrete #'s would be nice
I'm heading to my auto-x now
Thank you,
Steve

Hope you did well at the autox. I meant as your car is set up now. You should know this by the time you read this post. If you didn't feel neutral, you need more negative caster front and rear, toe out in front. The amount of rear toe will fine tune the balance. Let us know how it went.
Yeah, now you tell me
...... I had a lot of oversteer, way more then I needed. I did find out, if I had got my S last year, about 2 events earlier, and finished, I would have taken the trophy for BS
Today however was dismal, first time I'm actually upset/depressed about my performance. (so much so I'm not giving up any #'s....shhhhhh not a single clean run, and times where not all that close to begin with) When I took it out to the parking lot other night, I must not have pushed it any where enough to get a good feel. Darn car prob can't hit a .85g on the skidpath as set up now w/out starting a major drift. Thank you for the information, definitely got to do some more research. If anyone happens to know a good auto-x alignment don't be shy, I see TONS of alignment set-ups using search, but they vary so much, dunno what #'s to commit to. Got 7 more days untill my next auto-x, should be plenty of time to get this nailed down
Thanks again fellow s2k'ers,
Steve

Ok, got a suguestion for alignment from a fellow board member, and it sounds good.
F Caster 5.6 (because this is the most i can get for some reason)
F Camber -1.75
F Toe ?
R Camber -2.0 (even noted that -2.25 might be better)
R Toe 1/4" total rear toe in
The ? for F toe is there because either A) He forgot to mention it in a reply or the more likely B) I did not understand everything he was saying. By saying 1/4" total rear toe in, does that dictate what the F Toe should be ? Arrrgg I'm such a newb
Thank you,
Steve

Rear toe and front toe are independent of each other. All toe means is which direction the front of each tire is pointed... either IN towards the other side of the car, or OUT away from the car. I think of toe in on a car being like feet that are pidgeon-toed in, meaning the toes pointing in towards each other and the ankles angled outwards.
In the specs I quoted you, which came from Bill Gendron, the front wheels should have zero toe, meaning they'd be pointed directly straight ahead. The aggressive front camber setting, coupled with the heavy caster and fat sway bar should make turn-ins a dream-come-true. Tweaking with front toe, either in or out, will decrease the car's stability at speed.
