Got an oil question...
Hey everyone...i just got my stook and i LOVE it!!! just put 100 miles on it yesterday after i got it from the dealership...damn...what a nice car =) just can't wait to hit the 600 mile mark so that i can experience the vtec...but i read on the threads about the s2k burning up oil for the first couple of thousand miles...if this is true what oil should i be putting in the replenish it? i don't think i can start putting in mobil one yet right??? and also when can i start putting in mobil one...after the first oil change? thanks for everyone's help...
Use a premium conventional 10W30 to top off during break-in. It is recommended that you wait for the rings to fully seat before switching to synthetic motor oil. If it is not using any oil you could switch at the first change, or wait to a later one if it is still consuming oil.
It is also very important to look at both sides of the dip stick. When the oil is very clean it is very difficult to see the oil on the dip stick. One side may get a trace of oil on it and make it look like the oil level is higher than it really is. Check both sides for oil between the stacked "Xs" on the dip stick.
Also, 5-30 that is used in most Honda products should not be used in the S2000, it will get past the rings faster than the 10-30 that is recommended. Make sure whom ever changes your oil puts in 10-30. (5-40 only if you drive below 0 deg.F)
Hope this helps,

Ditto what the others said. Each engine is different in how it will break-in, may or may not use any oil. My S2K did not burn any oil during the first 3000 miles. Had it changed at 3500 (would NOT recommend waiting until 7500) with regular 10W-30, then switched to 10W-30 Mobil synthetic at 7500 miles
my recollection is that the owners manual is pretty specific as to the characteristics that the oil must have... check in the manual and look for the circle on the oil container (usually on the back)- the manual tells what attributes need to be in the circle. most major brands do have the attributes needed, but you need to make sure that the one you buy has them.
by the way, welcome to the board!

If you drive like most of us here on the board, follow the SEVERE SERVICE MAINTENACE SCHEDULE in your owner's manual which requires changes at 3,750 miles.
However, I switched to Mobil 1 10W-30 at the FIRST oil change--get that regular crap out of there pronto!
