I once witnessed someone hit a shopping cart on purpose and it hit someone elses car. They got out laughing and went in to walmart.
I told my wife to hang on, and I got like 50 carts cliped them together and put them around their car, all the way around. I wish I could have seen their faces.

This happened to me about a month ago at Publix. Mine wasn't too bad, though. I always like to keep this in mind: what goes around comes around.
This is all the fault of cheap-ass stores that won't hire enough staff to keep their lots free of carts, then put up signs that they are not responsible! Just one of the reasons I hate big box stores. For that reason, I have not been to Wal-Mart since 2004. But when I just must go to a bog box store, I park in an area where the surface is either flat, or slopes away from where I park, so carts won't roll into my car.

Post pix. If there isn't any paint damage, a PDR specialist might be able to pop it out. My guy makes magic happen.

I work at a grocery store, I worry constantly about shopping carts. I have learned there are far better places to park to lessen the potential for shopping cart damage.
Park next to the cart returns if they are empty as people tend to push the carts in and will be less likely to be lazy and leave them sitting around near other cars. Also, park in areas where the wind could not blow them against your car. This means to either park way out in the lot right next to a curb (also lessens the potential for door dings) or park in the little alcoves that some grocery stores have that have very few shopping carts near them. Hope this helps!
Also, some stores have insurance for this type of thing and may cover the damage outright (not for employees though). It is worth a shot at least so that you don't have to pay to get it fixed...

i saw someone try to roll a cart into a cart return from about 15ft away, and completely missed by about 3 ft..... almost hit a moving car, but still i'm sure many people do this and do hit parked cars.......danger
