Insist that your dad keep his Volvo because it means a lot to him. He will be so proud of you for "doing the right thing" that he'll probably end up getting the S2000 for you anyway. Either way you'll have your car, but this way you'll be a fine son vs. a self-centered kid. Seriously, that's a tough situation -- sports cars can be as alluring as sex.

here's my suggestion...

say to your father. "although your offer would please me greatly and provide me with instant gratification, i'm not mature enough to understand and/or appreciate that you are willing to make sacrifices for me. because of my immaturity, i am also not a good candidate for a high-performance drop-top sports car. hold onto the thought, and in a few years, i'll let you drive MY S2000, when i've saved up enough dough to buy it on my own. thanks again dad."

My dad HATES ny car 'cause he can't get out of it! LOL! I don't know how old your dad is, but I'm guessing he's younger than mine (my graduation was a looong time ago).

Maybe you can help out with the payments or pay the insurance??? I think he can be convinced of keeping BOTH...hehehe

It's easy to offer such noble and stoic advice when you already own an s2k. Assuming Mr_Ginzo is about 17yo, he deserves credit for even struggling with this dilemma. Your average highshcool senior would sell his parents into slavery for a shiny new sports car and not think twice about it. Offering advice that causes introspection, as Rusler Firbrand did, seems effective. But a couple of others on this thread took this familiar topic as an excuse to lambast Mr_Ginzo with insults which were thinly veiled as "advice".

I offered a different perspective of the situation.

- Mr. Armchair Quarterback -

p.s. based on the replies, it looks as if the lambsters know who they are.
