Default greasing the seals

Just a quick Q.

I've been greasing my roof seals on the outside of the rubber. This however leaves grease marks on the windows, and looks ugly when you put the roof down.

I've seen some remnants of Shin Etsu on the inside of my seals too, where it joins the frame (not the inside of the car).

What's the suggested area?

Inside and outside of the seal?
Just outside contact areas?
Just inside and let it soak through to the contact areas?

Thanks all.

Can't really avoid the grease streaks when you first apply. I apply to any exposed rubber, then just clean the windows once or twice over the next few days. The excess will absorb into the rubber or get cleaned up with the window. Also try leaving the windows down overnight after applying, it helps the seals to "plump up" and regain their shape.
