Greasing your rubbers?
How many of you use Shin-Etsu grease on your rubbers (for your convertible of course!
)?
If so, how often?
Is it really necessary?
Just curious, I have some, but haven't used it yet!
TIA!

I do, on both of our convertibles. My old Mazda's window seals dried up and cracked, and cost $200 to replace each time. The Shin-etsu grease is used to keep the seals soft and pliant, which I also hope will keep air and water from getting around the convertible top.

www.handaaccessories.com has Shin-Etzu. Thats where I got mine.
Funny it was brought up. I just did mine this weekend. You can definately tell the difference if they were a little dry.
The first thing you will notice is that the stuff smells like garbage! It also doesn't rub in real well, so use small (I MEAN SMALL) amounts or you will have a lot of extra grease that will get on windows, hands, etc. It barely took 3 little dabs to do each side and 2 for the top of the roof.

I use the stuff. Basically I put a little on a cotton towel and I rub it in nicely, leaving the rubber seals moisturized and "looking-healthy". I'm sure it prolongs wear and tear over long periods of time and it's a good thing to do. It will also help the seals to be more water resistant and air tight. I didn't notice the smell, maybe my nose was stuffed up.
When I first read the title of this thread I was thinking ... AstroGlide!!! But of course, I soon realized my mind was in the gutter once again ...

I bought a tube of the grease and never used it. Silicone spray from Pep Boys seems to work well to keep the seals lubricated. If anybody wants my tube of Shin-Etzu grease you are welcome to it. You pay the shipping and it's yours, gratis. PM me if you want it.
