Default "The Great Header Test"

I see more and more demand for Headers everyday.
As i myself am really thinking about going the N/A way I think it would be great to do something that was done over at The Type R forum(Of coarse since we have better cars will have results ..J/K). It was called "The Great Header Test". Basically They took one stock Type R and in one day test and tuned about 4 0r 5 Headers(cant remember exactly). They used One of the forums car, and headers from members that "Donated" the headers (of coarse they got it back when the event was finished..besides most of the people involved where local). If im not mistaken One of the members owned or had a connection to the shop where it was dynoed and it was a succes. A couple of my friends made their decision for headers for their Type R's Based on this "event" and it wouldnt be a bad idea to do something simillar. I am sure many of you would love to see the tests and results. What do you guys think?

It wouldn't be a bad idea but it would be a pain in the ass to prove something that most of us have already accepted and known. Various dynos have been done already on this subject.

Spoon shows top end power
Mugen shows mid range power
DC shows basically no power
Toda is new, and no one has one
Amuse is to damn expensive and no one has one
Comptech I believe is top end (not sure about this one)

i used that thought, but mugen headers did not get that on SC.... am testing Spoon header next weekend to see if it does better with FI.

I don't think you can have a valid comparison when using FI. You've pretty much changed the different varialbles available. Different air, fuel, would have to be taken into account. I would suspect that going FI in the case of a Supercharger, I wouldn't expect much if any gains from a header change.

my comparison is same car, same dyno, no other engine mods between, so it should give a fairly good eval of differences. wish i had done it all the same day, but i did not think about trying the spoon until after the mugen gave odd results.

granted there is a variance between any pulls even if they are right after each other, but if you look at the average of them, it is better than just guessing...

Kam, I meant comparing the headers usage on a Supercharged car against a NA car. To many variables between those 2 to make a comparison valid or meaningful.

exactly why i am doing my own mini-test. concensus for NA was spoon and mugen are best. rather than base choice on comparing results from mismatched cars/dyno's, i would test them both on my own car. it might end up that neither gives any great gains, so i might go back to stock header instead of paying all that money for 8-9 lbs weight saving. i can knock off the doughnuts and use the cash for something else.... like gauges, aftercooler, etc.

will probably keep the SS exhaust, that shaves 22 lbs from stock, nice sound, love the oval tips, only 4hp less than no exhaust at all, doubt if i can do much better than that for the price.
