why not wait for the spugen header?

personally i would think the spoon style header would offer better top end gain with the centrifugal type blowers.

the comptech one looks very much like the old MG Racing one (4-2 design?). has anyone actually done an independent testing on it? i've seen their own graph on their website.

Here is the link: The Great Header Test

I donated my money to this test, well worth it. And I'd donate money again to see the tests on the S2K. It was a big effort, but I think the people on this board could pull it together.

Its funny because after all the test and data recovery it turned out that the JDM DC headers were best bang for the buck. Im not too clear on all the detailes but but it showed something like an extra 10 HP's while being one of the cheapest in the bunch.

it took awhile, but this is what i have found.

after putting on the mugen, i started getting some detonation issues above 8k, so we added fuel mechanically to richen the top, and dropped the lowend a little with the VAFC. without spending lots of time ($$$) on the dyno, we saw about the same below 4300, drop in midrange and better highend than stock, opposite of NA results.

i swapped in a spoon header and made no adjustments for fuel/vafc. ambient temperature was about 15-20 degrees warmer than when i did the mugen dyno. up to around 4700 it was the same as stock/mugen, started to gain, then dropped off between 5000 and 6200, for a little going slightly lower than stock, but always above mugen. after 6300 it rocked.

i felt that it was still running rich in the low WOT, and it was throwing some black smoke at the end, so i leaned it -1 in low, and -1 above 7500 and did 1 more pull. this got me a little better on the low end, but the same, to slightly worse on the high end.

since i have the greddy emange unit coming in, it was not worth trying to squeeze more out of it at this time.

i have not seen other dyno charts to determine if the 5000 to 6500 range is a characteristic of the spoon header + FI, but from reading some other threads with people trying to explain things, it may be. once the emanage is on, i will be trying to smooth that out.

end decision, for my SC application (comptech for sure and i would assume vortech as well) spoon is definitely better than stock or mugen.

Now, if you could get one of Comptech's headers, we could see what the difference in design does. Thanks for posting.

if some local guy wants to meet up and swap a comptech, or the new toda when it shows up, into my car for a couple runs on the dyno, i would be happy to try it. at this point i do not want to spend more of my own cash to get one and have to turn right around and sell the lower one....

larry and i have gotten to the point that we can switch headers fairly easily and i was able to use the lift at the shop where we dyno since the spoon needs a couple feet clearance to get it in and out. strangely, the mugen header would not fit in with the car in the air, had to drop it till the wheels touched the ground.

cool...thanks for keeping us posted.

But it would still be nice to do it with a completely stock s2k.... maybe as the variety for headers is increasing this test would be a doable in the future.

BTW- How about "THE GREAT INTAKE TEST"?
