Default Great Road Trip

This past weekend I drove from Annapolis, MD to Cincinnati, OH for a family friend's wedding and the s2000 couldn't have been a better companion. It's roughly 8 hours each way but the miles just seemed to fly by.

I encountered a pretty broad range of weather so I couldn't drive with the top down all the time. Lucky for me, I just installed one of the ConCeiling Finer Liners which gave a significant improvement in top-up comfort. Wind and road noise were noticeably reduced which made the drive much more manageable. The engine sounds even sweeter! Next step: MLV in on the floor boards and wheel wells to further reduce unwanted noise.

Best part of it all: I averaged 29mpg's cruising at an average speed close to 80mph! (Full tank of gas -> Reset Trip -> Drive until near empty -> Record amount refilled: 295 miles and 10.2 gallons) This is at least two or three miles per gallon better than previous road trips. I did do the majority of this trip without the A/C kicked on so that probably made the difference. Any chance my switch to Amsoil 10w30 ATM made a difference too?

Prior to ownership I read a lot of car mags that ragged on the s2000 for its lack of long distance comfort but I couldn't disagree more. For me, the seats are comfortable, the steering is precise, the car tracks incredibly well and any lack of uphill-umph is quickly remedied by a rewarding down shift or two. My girlfriend might not be crazy about the car's comfort for long distances, but I absolutely love taking this car on long road trips.

One more thing...driving through OH, WV, PA, and MD in the fall is absolutely beautiful! The combination of seventy degree weather and the leaves changing colors made for near-perfect conditions (when it wasn't raining).

Cool story. I still haven't had the opportunity for a big trip yet but I'm sure it would be a blast. Though I worked out my mileage to 19mpg.. Hopefully my math is wrong

I'm glad the liner got there in time for the trip.

While I've never done a 'LONG' trip, my longest trip done is 3 hrs and I couldn't agree with you more. My Sentra gave me back pains on the same trip (Bay area to Fresno, CA) and when I made the same trip in the S my back was completely at ease. Completely disregarding the fun factor, I personally feel the s2000 makes an AMAZING commuter car. Does it get Yaris' like gas mileage? No. But getting anywhere from 28-32 mpg while having a blast driving is

I commuted with a 2010 Corolla for a week. Now back to S2000. My days are brighter again... I am bothered that a car makes this much difference in my mood. Makes me think I must be a really shallow person. Anyhow, no gas mileage difference is worth the experience.

Maybe but doubtful. 30 is pretty easy when it's all highway miles.

Comfort is quite subjective. The S is no luxo-barge (thankfully) but I have no complaints after a couple of multi-thousand mile road trips that each included a 16+ hour driving day. It's a great car for road trips IMO -- especially if there are some good roads.

If it's all city (especially with some VTEC thrown in) that's probably about right. That's what I get in the the city.

Driving style matters.

Nice trip...I only drive the S short distances here at home but would look forward to taking her out for a long cruise if the opportunity came up.

In the summer of '09, I drove my previous S2K from Southern California to Texas and averaged 30+ mpg all the way there and back. At one point I even averaged 35.4 mpg with the A/C on, top and windows up.
In the end of the trip, I had no discomforts due to the S2K, but I was tired as hell!
I would recommend this car for anyone going on a solo or +1 cruise; just don't bring too many belongings. My trunk was packed to the point where it was pretty difficult opening it.
