Great Road Trip
That's a cool story wish you'd took pics and stuff but it was interesting reading your long trip experience in the S. I don't know how tall you are, but I'm 6'1 and my right foot was getting a lil numb when I was going to pick the car up from Ohio back to KY, that was the longest trip i had in the S so i would say. Great mpg top up, no a/c, but in city n high way i get 280ish full tank. But I don't know about the long distance trips in the S well for me
Three weeks ago I drove 18 hours in one day (Houston, TX - Charlotte, NC) in a day, pulling a utility trailer with a set of wheels and tires, huge utility box, and 5 weeks worth of clothes and supplies. Averaged just under 22 mpg and averaged closed to 79 mph.
My road trip starts next Wednesday. Leaving from the Milwaukee area and heading out to LA. Spend a week out there carving canyons and then head back. Going through southern Colorado out and then Tucson and Texas on the way back. My wife and I LOVE road trips!
On the Oregon crew's drive to Homecoming and then Vegas/Reno/Home, my worst MPG was about 25mpg, my best was 33.7mpg (drafting the lead car)
. That particular tank was only a 7.7gal fillup, so it isnt wholly accurate. It was also primarily back-road "highway" driving.
All total, we put 2500-2800 miles in depending on start/end location in 6 days. One of those days was pretty static since we stayed in Vegas, but did drive to Hoover Dam and back.
My trip was 2518.6 miles so it averages out to 420 miles per day.
First day was much longer, the vegas day was much shorter.
For the most part, I was comfortable. The girlfriend was not as much.
