"Green Air Filters?"
I've done a search, but nothing definitive on my question.
Does anybody here use a Green air filter element in their s2k? To make a long story short, I had been using K&N until my trusted tech (a member of this board also) told me it was letting too much crap into my intake. I switched back to stock, and actually didn't feel any performance decline.
Well, we recently added a Mercedes SLK to our "stable" so I looked on the boards specializing in that car. Many there were raving about Green filters, saying they improved airflow, actually trapped more dirt, and one guy dyno'd his car and got 9 more hp to the rear wheels with the Green filter and no other mods. I feel that these accounts are trustworthy AS TO THE SLK, as I actually talked to some of the owners there on the phone.
But the s2k is an entirely different "animal" from the SLK. That's why I am wondering if any s2k owner has tried these Green filters, and what results were obtained.

Sportscar magazine (the official publication of SCCA) did a test of them on a BS Mazda RX-8. There was, if I remember correctly, a 1.something horsepower bump in switching from the K&N to the Green.
I also remember reading in that article that the Green had less filtration media in it than the comparable K&N, and they theorized that this was the reason behind the apparent increased flow.

Here is a link to a thread on SLKworld.com, where the second post discusses (and pictures) the 9 hp increase to the rear wheels on an SLK 55 AMG.

Other posts in this thread discuss that the Green filters actually filter out more junk that the stock SLK filters. As the owner of an SLK also, I find that board to contain very accurate info. BTW, "Green Fliters" is a brand name, that does not only refer to the color.
BUT, I know enough about these things to understand that something that produces good results on an SLK 55 AMG might not do the same on an S 2000. So I ask again whether anybody has had any experience with Green (brand) air filters on an S 2000.

No environmental effect, except that some users report better gas mileage, so I guess that's environmental. I wouldn't expect a 9 hp gain on an S 2000, The SLK 55 AMG makes about 350 hp (at flywheel) whereas my S 2000 makes 240. I was just wondering if this filter would give a proportional increase in hp in an S 2000?
my only experience with them was when i ordered mine from online it was too big to fit in the airbox and after going back and forth trying to make it fit, i returned it to get a k&n. by the way the retailer stated thats the only model they have .who knows you might have more luck than me. heres the nite where i ordered it from, funny how they took out the s2000 option. http://www.autoanything.com/air-filt...A2101A0A0.aspx
