Thanks Lucid and RedBlur...

Place where I work does have a credit union but
it does not make a great difference.. $8-9 a month at most.

What dealer did you buy it from ?
I bought mine from Babylon Honda about 2 months ago.
They recently had a 2001 Spa yellow with 5k miles on it that was in perfect condition they only wanted $27,500 for it and I am sure they would have taken $27k or maybe even $26,5k.

You could have bought it for significantly less than leasing it !

I have seen leases for brand new ones for around $400 per month with no money down, just the required up friont stuff that ususally adds up to around $2,000 - $2,500. Preludes definitley dont cost $500 per month on lease, shit my friend last year bought a $45k Z3 for $600 per month.

Dealership typically screw you if you are not savy about pricing.

If you think about it you stated that you bought a 2001 I am not sure if it is new or used.

Assuming it is new you should not have paid a dime more than $30k the car is ONE model YEAR old allready
- Babylon Honda had new LEFT OVER 2000's in March '01 for $29k

$30,000 Sale price of car
$ 2,000 Hardtop
$32,000 Sale price of car with hardtop
$ 3,000 Tax + DMV fees
$35,000 Total after tax
- $1,500 down payment
$33,500 Amount Financed
$ 647 per month (60 month loan at 5.99% )

Just sounds like to me the dealer screwed you on the lease. You should have consulted on this board before you handed over your hard earned money to the greedy dealers coffers.

Congrats anyway enjoy the car and the nice weather we have been having on Long Island.

putting more down reduces your interest charges for the term of the lease.

basically a leased car ends up costing you as follows (pre-tax):

downpayment + all monthly payments + buyback = TOTAL COST OF CAR

the more you put down, the less interest (built into monthly pymts) you will pay.
