What size 3/4 closed wrench do you need to remove the stock brake line off the caliper? Greg is working on his now, away from his computer, and asked me to ask you guys... He's putting his stainless lines on now.

I'll be watching for replies! Thank you thank you thank you!

That's one of those trick questions, isn't it.

3/4" of course!

when working on anything foreign, I always break out the 10, 12, and 14mm sockets. Most bolts aren't much bigger or smaller than those.

It was a while ago, but I vaguely remember using the 11mm a lot...

Thanks for the replies and thanks Sondra for posting it. I just got back from Scarlet's concrete bunker and removed all 4 calipers. It went pretty easily.

It's really a two phase deal for me, as I am going to strip all that danged burned Folia Tec paint off of them, then go back to the bunker and put the stainless lines on. Right now my baby is sitting all alone with no means of braking, no brake fluid...I hope no one decides to steal her!

OK, so here's the question. The calipers are off, no big deal. I took off both pieces of the calipers, actually, which are attached to the back of the hub by two bolts that Zeus himself must have tightened. I thought I was going to have an aneurism getting those front passenger side bolts loosened. So, now, when I go back to the bunker, I need to have a 3/4 closed end wrench to remove the brake line from the point that it turns to the cheesy rubber tubing.

Cthree and anyone else who has put SS lines in their cars, what is the exact size and type of wrench to have? I'm assuming it is a 3/4 closed end wrench about 12mm...let me know so I can make sure to get the right wrench!

I already gave greg the answer to this question but I'll post it here for continuity and in case someone searches for it later.

It's called a flair nut wrench. It's like a cross between a box end and an open end wrench. You need the 10mm size. Here is a pic of what a 10mm/12mm flair nut wrench looks like:

The brake line slips through the gap. Why do you need this and not just an open end wrench? An open end wrench will strip the nut clean off, I know, I did it!! An open end wrench only applies pressure to two corners of the nut. All the torque in focused on those two corners. The nut is a soft metal and the corners will strip off the nut. You can buy them at Sears.

Probably more than you needed to know but there it is.
