Grill for S2000---Greg Stevens
WHAT? Of course the grill can be used with the front plate! The two don't even come near one another! It may make it easy to take the plate off when you install the grill cover, but noooooooooo, the two are NOT incompatible!
A plate is req'd in Ill, and I haven't gotten a ticket for not having it. Can't say they won't notice, but none here have so far!

Greg:
I just went out and checked the mounting to make sure I wasn't barmy. I spent a lot of time trying to figure how to mount that grill with the plate. Ended up just ditching the plate.
The mounting point for my front plate is on the inside-top of the S2000 grill.
As the plate mount-arm needs to shoot through the S2000 grill to work, the aftermarket grill is incompatable.
Now I guess you could cut the mesh of the aftermarket grill (yuck) or mount it behind the S2000 grill.

OK, let me eat a little crow here. It has been a long dang time having been front plate-less, so I took a look at the bracket and yes, it looks like there may be an issue with the way that the bottom flange mounts to the inside of the front. I will look more at that tomorrow. Perhaps if Dennis is up for this, maybe he can make a plate version for people who don't want to take their plates off. I will ask him and find out. That would, however, require another design on his part.
I say, to hell with the law, lose the plate, get the grill...
Also, just another thought here, you can cut the mesh, it's aluminum, with some snips and run the same kind of rubbe tubing around the newly exposed mesh. That should't be that big of a deal...
We will see what Dennis has to say...!

i've had one since about the beginning of the summer. let me say, it's made very well, installed in 30 seconds, and it definitely serves its purpose. it has stopped huge bugs, rocks, and all kinds of crap that would otherwise have hit the radiator.
i reccomend the flat black.
also let me say that dennis was great - called me up (from florida --> NY!) to go over my order, just to make sure i got the right thing.
it's virtually invisible head on, but looks mesh from an angle.
cool stuff. everyone get one!
