My 2001 does exactly the same thing, though it seems to be less noticeable at 2800 miles. Maybe I'm just used to it. It doesn't seem like a loose shield to me, but something near the clutch. It only happens from 0 - 5 mph.

I'd be very interested to find out what causes it.

This is a new one....you might really want to check the heat shield. Do you have a header?

I have heard the same noise from day one on my '01. It is definitly NOT the heatshield. I suspect it is just from using low RPM's during takeoff.

Let us know if the dealer says it is something more serious.

Neat. I've noticed the same thing on my brand new '01 as well. I'm really glad I'm not the only one hearing it.

Since it's been raining nonstop since I got the car, at first I thought it sounded like the rear wheels were spinning on wet pavement (even though it doesn't feel like that all).

Deadpedal, keep us posted! I'd love to hear the cause of this noise too.

I've mentioned my special noise several times here. It's the same "rattlin' nuts" sound as reported by others, but only happens to me when I rev the motor a bit...to maybe 2 or 3000 and let off on the gas.....rrrrrrrr, it goes! And, this is the funny part, it's most noticeable when the clutch is engaged, or when I'm letting the clutch out to go up my drive which is on an incline. It's barely noticeable outside the car. Any ideas?

Well, to me, it seems to just be low rpm lag, since I don't really get the sound unless I'm light on the throttle while going into gear. The sound comes as the clutch is engaging and I start accelerating out of the 1-3k rpm band. On the other hand, if I'm actually awake and getting into gear at a decent rpm, then I don't hear the sound. Only really happens in 1st gear, and sometimes 2nd gear when I seem to bog the engine.

Do you get the same noise lets say in 2nd gear at a very low speed (~1000rpm)...

My car does that, and its just from lugging the engine. Hey, its flexible but not that flexible

My 99 Vette had a driveline noise that I found irritating. It was in a first gear start situation... sounded like a bag of marbles...

turns out, its inherent to the Borg Warner T56 tranny.

depending on your launch technique, you could avoid the noise, but it made for some jerky starts...

I used to be PO'd about driveline noise from a 45,000 dollar car. But then, I guess those trannies are pretty bulletproof and a little noise is just something to live with.

I just make sure with the S2000, to start off a lot smoother and avoid some driveline noise... with this car being a ragtop and the top down a lot, I REALLY hear it...

let us know what you find out...

Someone mentioned the sound appears when "bogging the engine". Although I can always hear it as I pull up the driveway in 1st., I can also hear it just by gunning the engine...with the clutch engaged. No bogging there! I can hear the rattling as the motor goes up & over the top, and back down (in pitch) when I give the accelerator a little jab...say up to 2 or 3000. That's with the clutch IN!

Talked to the dealer today about Service Bulletin 054, but they refuse to discuss it if it doesn't come to them from Honda Espa
