I've been searching the threads looking for some info, but no luck.
When accellerating from a dead stop in 1st, I get a noise that sounds like muffled soda cans rumbling around. The sound kind of sounds like it comeing from the front right. I wasn't too concered with the noise until my mom just called and said that when I was leaving it sounded like I grinded the gears, but I know I didn't and I do remember hearing that noise when I was pulling away. This happens maybe 75% of the time on my '01, and it's only from a compleate stop...it dosen't happen on downshifts or anywhere else...

Any ideas?
Thanks!

This is the first I've heard of that symptom. Better visit the dealer asap.

I get this same thing, it's really subdued at first, but once you hear it...it'll bug you to death. My dealer...haha?...told me it was "drivetrain-backlash". It only happens when you start out at low rpms...am I right? I always gig the gas up a bit to keep it from happening in my car. Still happens sometimes. Really annoying.

exactly...only at low rpms...I think I'll head into the dealer tomorrow and have one of the mechanics drive with me in the car... They are a VERY cool dealership and friends of the family, so I'm sure if there's any ideas they will be openly disscussed. I'll give a full report as soon as I get any info.

I'm still listening to any other ideas anyone else out there has...

Give the car more revs from a start and the sound will go away. This happens to me when I'm not paying attention and lug the car from a start.

Could it be the loose heat shield rattle? that's why my dealership keeps telling me about my crappy noisy clutch..<sigh>

I have exactly the same sound. Car is just one 4 days old,
with only 600KM on it. I'll ask my dealer as well.

Did you have the TSB work for the noisy clutch? I just got it done. I get the same noise that the TSB solved for decelerating, but during standstill starts when I lug the engine a little. Doesn't bother me, the clutch is much quieter on decels, so I'll take the compromise.

Been looking through some older messages, and I have this same problem with my 2001 S2k. I get a low rattling/rumbling sound going from dead stop sometimes. Seems to occur below or around 2k rpm, and goes away as I get to 3k rpm. I don't really notice any problems decelerating while in 2nd or 3rd gear, but I was wondering if we have a cause for this noise yet. Or more importantly, is this noise something that should be brought to the dealer or is it considered "normal" and I should cross it off my list of stuff to worry about?

Same thing here. Mine is also a 2001. I noticed it the first day I got it.
Happens only when starting from a stop and dies away quickly.
I thought it was coming from the back side of the car?? and can't hear it from the outside so I thought is was the heatshield resonating at some particular rpm?
Have'nt given it much thought since since it wasn't that loud.
Please post if you find out what's causing the rattling. Thanks.
