Some words of advice about using a controller. First get used to the joystick for steering if you haven't already. Second do NOT use the X button as your gas, the ps3 controllers are not very good at pressure sensitive alterations as the ps2 controllers (very hard to get consistent less than half throttle input), instead remap the controller as follows. R2 - gas, L2 - brake, triangle - shift up, square - shiftdown, x - reverse. This will allow you to rest your right thumb to the left of the button pad between the triangle and square buttons so that you can just "rock" your thumb to shift up or down. This will also give you a better grip on your controller so that it doesn't shift in your hand after many laps of using R2 as the gas pedal.

The joystick will quickly snap back to center, but not instantly. When you consider the speeds you are going in the game this action is actually quite realistic, don't believe me and still think it snaps too quickly? Make sure you are on professional mode with all assists turned off and purposely get your self into trouble with the '07 GTR, you will see that you actually can't countersteer fast enough always to recover (in a side to side swerve manner, and as a side note the GTR seems to have crappy steering angle).

Im not doubting the realizm of the game, im simply saying I wish i had better control of the drivers inputs.

I know its good to be able to snap to straight/coutersteer really fast in certain situations... but i wish it didnt do this all the time, just only when you want/need it to.

If im on a increasing radius corner, I cant seem to do it smoothly. the instant i let up at all on the steering input, the wheel (as displayed on the screen) snaps to straight and then i have to press hard again to not get wide on the corner. This whole process doesnt help with not upsetting the cars balance either.

Its just frustrating, I guess Im crazy cuz i havent ready anyone else complain about this, but hopefully the wheel (when i get it) will help me with this.

You problem seems a bit odd and I'm wondering if you could tell me the car and circuit and see if I could replicate your problem.

I jsut started as i bought it yesterday. It was in my first (and only) car, the Honda Integra (which is actually a RSX) (... in blue )

As I asked before, I wonder if theres some update I should download, or if there is a way to configure the controller to change this.

I know im not the only person to use the tapping method to get a easy turn out of the car (vs holding for a hard turn). The problem is most evident when trying to tap, as it is near impossible to do this when i played. it doesnt give you enough turning at all, and if you hold it and it goes to far, the instant you let up to tap it snaps back to straight (way more than i would want it to for a given turn), causing me to have to hold it again to stay on course....

It seems to help alot to use the analog stick. the pressure sensitive'ness of the the arrows suck, and basically is full on or full off. this wasnt a prob for gt4 but doesnt seem to go well with gt5

btw finally got the GT-R... much harder to drive than the evo.

Unless you want to wait until sometime in 2009, the Prolouge is as close as it gets. Racing against 12 other people online is pretty fun. And the in car view is ridiculously detailed.
It's fun but can be frustrating at the same time. I hate it when people bump you on purpose. It's a simulation game designed to really get close to true driving as it can. The least people can do is drive it like it's a real car. I try to at all cost avoid hitting or nudging other cars but people purposely aim at me like a target...
