Excellent thread. Good question, Gary. Before this thread, I knew zip about assembly. Now I'm much more educated about how my S is put together. You guys are great. This is the reason S2KI is the best. :-)

Now I'm kinda' bummed out. I was supposed to go to Ibaraki next month (near the Takanezawa facility), but -- damn economy -- no non-essential travel. Sigh...

I would love to have seen this place! That, and I'd like to shake hands (well, bow, perhaps) with the folks who built my car.

There are a few pix of Tochigi somewhere in the Gallery part of s2ki, but I'd really like to see more. Anyone have some more pix of the factory out there?

I should also point out that I've never given a damn before about the factories that have built my cars... I think that should tell you a lot about how amazed I am with the S2000! Hand-made, indeed. These guys should be thrilled with the fruits of their labor! Wish I knew how to tell 'em that in Japanese

Yep, a great forum for S2000 info. You can find most anything S somewhere on S2000i.

There are certain things that a machine simply can't do. When the B18C Spec R first debuted in Japan, each motor was hand ported/polished and everything in it hand torqued with the aid of a micrometer. Eventually I think there was a machine that was able to do all that but they use to have two guys working full time doing nothing but ITR motors.

For those of you who want to read on tuning motors by hand...Read here

THere was a Mercedes commercial, for an AMG car.

Setting: small shop, One person, and an engine block hanging from a lift.

"We'd like you to meet________. He hand builds every AMG Mercedes engine that we sell."
It was something like that, not quite sure though. That was cool.
